By definition kiteboarding is a sport that requires a kiteboarder or the person riding the kiteboard to glide through the surface of the water with the use of a kiteboard. There are 2 interchangeable terms use for this kind of sport: kitesurfing and kiteboarding, depending on which country you are coming from. With the help of a flat board and a powered controllable kite propeller, a person is carried through the water by strong wind and has to maintain balance and stay on top of the water while cruising at a relatively fast speed. Some of the styles invented for the kiteboarding sport are free style, wake-style and wave-style with an estimated 200,000 people participating in this sport whether professionally or as a leisure activity.

Kiteboarding is fast becoming a popular water sport because of the advances in technology that heightens the safety and convenience features of the power kites and special boards.
