All of this kiteboarding gear is necessary for each of their specific functions. Flying lines are used in order to handle the dynamic load of riders in uncontrollable wind, while at the same time maintaining a cross-sectional profile to minimize drag and accidents. Flying lines are made of strong and technologically advanced material that can handle the weight of both the rider and the wind. Each of the flying lines are attached from rider’s control bar to the kite with the use of cords.
The control bar is basically used to control the kite by pulling at its end, making the kite rotate either in a clockwise or counterclockwise motion. The kite harness is of course necessary, It is attached to you’re legs and midsection and is used to attach the rider to the control bar and make sure that the rider stays on the kite even when he performs jumps and other tricks.
A kiteboard is a must, in order to do kiteboarding. It comes in many different types and designs and also comes in many different sizes. A wetsuit is usually required to be worn by the rider all the time except when there are instances wherein the wind is very light and bearable.
The safety hook knife is also a necessary piece of kiteboarding equipment. The stainless-steel blade of the safety hook knife is partially protected by a curved plastic hook, that can cut or untangle kite lines or to help release a kite whenever its safety release system fails.
A helmet is used by kite riders and surfers to protect their heads from blunt trauma. It can be used to minimize impact injuries to the head, and to avoid head lacerations as well.
A personal flotation device, also called as the PFD is usually required for surfers who plan to kiteboard in deep water area, and makes use of a personal boat or water craft for support. In cases wherein the rider might be in trouble and is waiting for rescue while in deep water, a personal flotation device can be useful.
